Guitar Full of Soul (and Distortion)
Ask any guitar player to conjure the guitar in his or her head and the majority will picture Jeff Beck. He took the guitar to places others couldn’t even imagine, let alone visit. While most guitarists find a nitch, then play that to diminishing sustain for the rest of their careers, Beck continued to grow and get better. That he happened to always look as cool as can be was just a bonus. One of my favorite, less discussed, studio treats of his was the gritty, rhythmic thrust on Donovan’s Barabajagal. I was lucky to see him several times, but now I’ll never see another like him. Jeff Beck RIP
